FIL 2008 Dates, times, costs

When does FIL 2009 begin?
FIL 2009 runs from November 28 through December 6.

What am I entitled to with my entrance ticket?
FIL visitors can attend book presentations, literary and cultural forums, the exhibit hall and FIL Children during opening hours to the general public.

When are FIL 2009 opening hours?

  • For the General Public:
    • November 28 and 29, and December 3, 4, 5 and 6 from 9 AM to 9 PM.
    • November 30 and December 1 and 2 from 5 to 9 PM.
  • Open to professionals only:
    • November 30 and December 1 and 2 from 9 AM to 5 PM.

Remember that General Public access on days for professionals begins at 5 PM.

What is FIL's entrance fee?

  • General public: $20 pesos
  • Children, and senior citizens, students, teachers and members of the University of Guadalajara Foundation with proper ID: $15.00 pesos.

When is the inauguration of FIL 2009?
Saturday, November 28th, at 11 AM.

How can I find out which events require an additional registration fee?
The entrance ticket provides the general public free access to literary events; academic and professional events require an additional registration fee.

If I have an invitation to attend a book presentation in FIL, must I purchase an entrance ticket?
Yes.

Yes.

CONCERTS

Where do the concerts take place?
At the Expo Guadalajara Esplanade.

Is there a fee for the concerts?
The Esplanade concerts are free. Prices for tickets to concerts in private venues are published in the press.

How can I get the concert schedule?
The concert schedule will appear on our website and in the press.

FIL YOUTH

Will my entrance ticket give me access to FIL Youth activities?
Yes.

Is there an age limit for participating in these activities?
Events are open to everyone.

 

FIL CHILDREN

Can I access FIL Children with my general entrance ticket?
Yes.

Where is FIL Children located?
Upon entering FIL you will receive a map indicating where it is located.

How long are the workshops?
Approximately 50 minutes.

Can children participate in any of the workshops?
Yes, as long as there is still space available and they meet the age requirement for the specific workshops.

What are the hours for the workshops and shows?
Schedules will be published in the FIL General Program and webpage.

How can I register school groups for the children’s area?
Calling 3810-0331, extensions 933 and 934, or directly at FIL headquarters, located on Av. Alemania 1370, colonia Moderna, Guadalajara, Jalisco.

On what days can school groups attend FIL 2009?
School group pre-registered with the Children’s Area can attend from Monday, November 30th thru Friday, December 4th.

 

What are the age requirements for workshops and shows?
Workshops are for ages 3 to 12. Shows are for the whole family.

When should parents pick up their children at the workshops?
Parents are asked to please arrive 10 minutes prior to the ending scheduled hour of the workshop.

Can a child change workshops, or move from a workshop to a show?
Yes, as long as there is space available and the beginning and ending hours of the activities are met.

 


Book presentations

What is needed to present a book at FIL?
Fill out thebook presentation application form and send it by fax or email to carolina.tapia@fil.com.mx

Any cultural institution, author or publisher, foreign or domestic, can present literary novelties as part of the FIL program. An exhibition stand is not required.

How large are the rooms?
Expo Guadalajara has rooms that may accommodate 250, 150, 100 or 50 people in its Events Area on the first floor, the Events Rooms on the second floor, and in the International Area.

What’s the deadline for sending book presentation requests?
There is no deadline. All applications are subject to schedule and space availability.

Confirmed applications by September 14th, 2009 will receive the following benefits:

  • Publication in the Preliminary Program for the press
  • Publication in the Contents Catalog
  • Publication in the General Program
  • Publication on FIL’s official website, in Spanish and English.

What is the book presentation fee?

From January 30th  to June 15th, 2009 US$160.00
From June 16th to September 7th, 2009 US$200.00
From September 8th to November 9th, 2009 US$220.00

What does the fee include?

  • Use of the room for 50 minutes
  • 3 badges per presentation
  • Sound system
  • Name plates
  • Table
  • 2 hostesses
  • A table outside the room for selling or exhibiting materials during the presentation

In vestibule 4, top floor,, to the side of Expo Guadalajara’s main cafeteria.


Exhibitors and professionals

What are the days and hours for Professionals?
November 30, December 1 and 2 (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday) from 9 AM to 5 PM.

What kinds of professionals attend FIL?
Rights agents, publishers, booksellers, distributors, librarians, illustrators/graphic artists, promoters of reading, translators, scouts and writers.

How can I register as a visiting professional or buyer?
By sending the pre-registration form by November 6, 2009 or at the Registration Desk in the Main Lobby of Expo Guadalajara from November 28th to December 2nd, 2009.

What is the Registration Desk schedule?
9 AM to 5 PM.

As a visiting professional, where should I go if I have already pre-registered and paid the registration fee?
Go to the Pre-registration Desk and pick up your Exhibitor and Buyer Catalogs, floor plan, badge and any other information of interest.

Where is the Business Center?
In the Blue Pavilion of the International Area.

What services are available in the Business Center?
Exhibitors Services Desk, email services, free coffee, tables for business meetings, storage, messenger service, and restrooms.

Who has access to the Business Center?
All exhibitors, professional visitors and agents bearing a badge.

What is the Salón del Libro?
It is a display of more than 5,000 recent Spanish-language publications selected jointly by U.S. and Mexican librarians.

Who participates in the Rights Center?
Literary agents and publishers in charge of selling and buying rights.

How can I find out which titles are being exhibited at FIL?
At the Books Catalog you will find a search engine for locating titles available at FIL.

What should I do as a first-time exhibitor?
Fill out and mail your stand request form. We will confirm receipt of your application and send you further instructions. Consult the participation policies.

How can I book appointments with Exhibitors and Professionals visitors?
Consult our Exhibitors Catalog and Professionals Catalog online by the end of October.

Where and when can I pick up my Exhibitor’s badge and the Exhibitors and Buyers Catalogues?
Friday, November 27, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM, in the Exhibitors Services Desk at the bussines center.

Who can help me with hotel reservations?

  • To help you on your visit to FIL, we have developed support programs that offer lodging for the following categories of professionals: literary agents, booksellers, distributor and librarians. If you do not belong to these categories, please contact our Travel Services Coordinator.

Which are the nearest hotels?
Please refer to the map available on the Hotel page.

What is the hotel reservation deadline?
October 5th, 2009 is the deadline for receipt of reservation forms.

How can I reserve a room?
Fill out the reservation application form providing your full information.

How will I know if my reservation was confirmed?
The Travel Services Coordinator will send you written proof, which will include your confirmation number.

What are the hotel rates for FIL?
Our 2009 special rates will be available beginning February on the Hotel section.

What is the deadline for making changes or cancellations with no penalty?
October 5th, 2009.

How can I receive airfare discounts?

Press

How can I receive information about FIL?
We publish all our press releases on our web page, in the Press section. People wishing to receive information in their inbox may register to our electronic mailing list. To do so, please fill out our on-line request form.

How can I get press accreditation for FIL?
Accreditation period begins in August. The accreditation request form is filled out on-line and once approved, you will receive confirmation via e-mail.

When will on-line submitted press accreditations be available?
Press accreditations will be available at FIL offices in Guadalajara (Avenida Alemania 1370, colonia Moderna, Guadalajara, Jalisco, México), telephone (+52 33) 3810-0331. Information on dates and schedule to collect accreditations will be published at a later date.

You can also collect them during FIL in the Press Pre-Registration Desk in the main lobby of Expo Guadalajara. In order to assure proper accreditations delivery, especially on opening day, it is important that you verify that you are lined up at the correct desk.

To pick up your press badge, you will need to show a valid press ID card.

Can I attend all FIL events with my press badge?
Your press badge allows you to attend all FIL activities organized by FIL in Expo Guadalajara, certain forums taking place in the Hilton Hotel and in diverse locations at the University of Guadalajara. It is not valid for cultural activities that carry an entrance fee; for these it is necessary to receive due accreditation by the organizers of said events. This badge is not valid for attending FIL social activities or those organized by third parties.

What happens if I lose my press badge?
If you lose your press badge, contact our Press Office immediately. A replacement badge has a cost of 350 pesos.

Does FIL offer support for journalists that wish to attend?
Within its possibilities, FIL receives requests of support for journalists sent in before October of each year. FIL also negotiates special rates in several hotels around the city. FIL also negotiates discount airfares. For further information, contact our Travel Services Coordinator.

What services are available in FIL’s Press Office?
FIL’s Press Office is designed to offer journalists the best conditions for them to carry out their work. In addition to providing information on daily events, activities and press conferences, the Press Office offers accredited journalists computers, Internet access, phone, fax and copy services at no cost.
