The Pleasure of Reading
"You'll never be a writer
if you don't read voraciously"
Mayra Montero
FIL Guadalajara's The Pleasure of Reading is the ideal forum to bring together the two fundamental parts of the book-reading experience: writers and readers.
In a dedicated room in our Business Center, writers and intellectuals come together with a public interested in learning about how they became readers. Not speech nor lecture, writers have a relaxed conversation with the attending public which is an attempt to demythify both books and their authors.
This program has allowed readers to have direct contact with poets, novelists, short story writers and lovers of literature. Writers simply and casually discuss their experiences as readers as well as the creative process. At the same time, they serve as guides for a public at large on that might feel alienated in the larger, literary world.
Since it began six years ago, more than 120 writers have taken part in this program. Each writer has the opportunity to talk to the general public, in intimate surroundings, about their loves and their fears: the titles that have meant most to them during the course of their lives and about their reading interest.
The Pleasure of Reading
is, most of all, a program to encourage reading and
that attempts to extend the love of books to a public
that year after year comes to FIL.
