Angeleno art takes the museums of Guadalajara

7 art exhibits will show the public the present and past of this multifaceted and multiracial city

Photography, vintage cars, contemporary Chicano art and installations. The arts of the city of Los Angeles, one of the most dynamic and diverse in the continent, come to Guadalajara to show the public what probably is one of the most unknown faces of this metropolis.

Visual arts from Los Angeles in Guadalajara will include seven exhibitions: Revenge of Phantasmagoria, an installation that artist Mark Dean Vecca will set up in the Instituto Cultural Cabañas; L.A.: Landscape in the Prints, Photographs, and Books of Edward Ruscha, an exhibit composed of works from the permanent collection of LACMA on Ruscha’s creative connection with this city during his career will be at the Museo de Arte de Zapopan, alongside Phantom Sightings: Art After the Chicano Movement, the first exhibition presented by one of the main museums in the USA dedicated exclusively to contemporary Chicano art. Oz: New Offerings from Angel City, a collection of 40 works by 15 artists living in Los Angeles that represent the multiracial mosaic of the city’s visual arts, will be in the Museo Regional de Guadalajara. The exhibit Julius Shulman’s Los Angeles includes around 150 photographs from the Julius Shulman photography archive of The Getty Research Institute, rarely shown to the public. It will be located in the Museo de las Artes, next to Vexing: Female Voices of East L.A. Punk, an exhibit that examines women’s contributions during a vital period of artistic and musical production in Los Angles, from 1979 to 1984. La vida Lowrider: Cruising The City of Angels will be in Expo Guadalajara showing cars and bicycles from this unique artistic expression.
