Beyond Translation: A Dialogue Among Translators About Publishers, Editors and Readers

The work of the literary translator is not limited to the link between the original text and the one that is born in a new language. All translation comes from a reading, followed by many other readings by proofreaders and editors, until it reaches the end reader. The participants will discuss their experience in the construction of that first reading, and the stages of corroboration and contrast in the subsequent readings. Because the completed translation is the book, but it isn’t finished yet. This dialogue will cover other aspects that are rarely taken into account when one thinks of literary translation, such as documentation and research, communication with publishers (or authors), editors' changes, critics' comments, etc.
