Sor Juana Medal, award granted by the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana

For “its work in promoting reading and the Spanish-language publishing industry,” FIL Guadalajara received the Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Medal, the highest distinction awarded by the Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana. This recognition was established in 2005 and has been granted to individuals and institutions that have contributed to the cultural, social, and humanistic development of Mexico, including María Dolores Bravo, Carlos Monsiváis, Carmen Aristegui, Elena Poniatowska, Juan Ramón de la Fuente, and Leonora Carrington, among other distinguished figures.

Order of Rio Branco Decoration

In 2022, the Guadalajara International Book Fair received the insignia of the Order of Rio Branco from the Federative Republic of Brazil, in recognition of its promotion of Brazilian literature and culture, as well as for disseminating the Brazilian publishing market worldwide through its Destinação Brasil program.

For “representing one of the most important meeting points for books, writers, readers, and culture in the world, as well as serving as a major platform for the dissemination of the Spanish language,” FIL Guadalajara received the 2020 Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities.
