Publishing Merit Award
Between a manuscript and the reader lies a talented editor. Some editors have even left their imprint on books and collections that would influence generations to come. The Publishing Merit Award was created by FIL to honor Argentinean editor Arnaldo Orfila Reynal — who in Mexico directed the Fondo de Cultura Económica and founded Siglo XXI Editores — with the goal of highlighting the vision and craft of this key figure in the world of books. The verdict is responsibility of an international committee conformed by previously recognized publishers and Peter Weidhass, honorary director of the Frankfurt Book Fair.
