Biography
LÃdia Jorge is one of the most important voices in contemporary Portuguese literature. Trained in Romance philology, she lived in Angola and Mozambique during the wars of independence, an experience that deeply marked her work. Since her first novels, such as O Dia dos ProdÃgios, she has been regarded as a fundamental author and a recurrent candidate for the Nobel Prize in Literature. Her career has been honored with major literary awards in Portugal and abroad, and several of her works have been adapted for theatre and film. Translated into numerous languages, her work holds a central place in contemporary European literature.
