The University of Guadalajara, through a project created by the Environmental Sciences Museum as part of the University’s Cultural Center, and with the support of the Guadalajara International Book Fair, has established the José Emilio Pacheco City and Nature Award. The prize, which will be given for the first time this year, will be dedicated to poetry. The winning author, who must write in Spanish and have at least ten unpublished poems or poems published in the last five years that are related to nature, urban sustainability, socio-ecological harmony and environmental conservation, will be given a purse of US $10,000. The award is dedicated to poet José Emilio Pacheco, whose work explores the duality between cities and nature.
Oswaldo Hernández Trujillo
Created by the University of Guadalajara, and with the collaboration of the National Institute for Indigenous Languages, the Culture Ministry, the National Commission for the Development of the Indigenous Cultures and Jalisco’s Department of Education, the American Indigenous Literature Award is granted to enrich, protect and promote the legacy and richness of Mexico’s indigenous peoples through literature in all its forms, and to and acknowledge and further develop the careers and works of indigenous authors. The award, which carries a purse of US $25,000, will be given for the fourth time at the 2016 FIL Guadalajara.
Florentino Solano
The SM Ibero-American Award for Literature for Children and Young People was implemented in 2005, the year of Ibero-American literature, with the goal of promoting literature for children and young people throughout Ibero-America. The award is given out each year during the Guadalajara International Book Fair to recognize writers of literature for children and young people and carries a purse of US $30,000.
María José Ferrada
With the goal of creating a network that helps to encourage the work of illustrators of books for children and young people in Ibero-America, the SM Foundation and the FIL Guadalajara invites illustrators to submit their work to be included in the Annual Ibero-American Illustration Catalog. The 45 works selected will be displayed in an exposition at the Guadalajara International Book Fair. In addition, illustrators will have the opportunity to work on an illustrated book with Ediciones SM and the winner will be given US $5,000. Rasha Al Ameer
Rasha Al Ameer es autora y escritora de origen libanés. Desde 1990 dirige la editorial independiente Dar al Jadeed que fundó con su hermano, Lokman Slim, en Líbano. Dar al Jadeed publica obras árabes contemporáneas de autores como Mahmoud Darwish, Mohammead Khatimi, Abdullah al Alayli y Kamal Daoud.

Jorge Ramos
Es periodista, columnista y autor ganador del premio Emmy. Aclamado por la revista Time como uno de "los 25 hispanos más influyentes en los Estados Unidos", Ramos es el presentador y conductor de un programa político semanal en Univision, la cadena de televisión en español más grande del país. Aparece regularmente en ABC, CBS, NBC y CNN para discutir los acontecimientos en torno a los derechos de los inmigrantes. Nacido en la Ciudad de México, Ramos ha vivido en los Estados Unidos por más de 25 años.
Karine Pansa
Es la propietaria y directora editorial de Girassol Brasil Edições, una editorial de libros para niños en São Paulo, Brasil. También es directora de la junta de la Cámara Brasileña del Libro (CBL) y vicepresidenta de la Asociación Internacional de Editores (IPA), la federación más grande del mundo de asociaciones de editores nacionales, regionales y especializados.
En el mercado editorial desde hace 28 años, Karine Pansa es ex presidenta de la Cámara Brasileña del Libro (CBL) y hasta hace poco formaba parte del Directorio del Plan Nacional del Libro y la Lectura (PNLL), un conjunto de programas de la industria del libro que promueven los hábitos de lectura, literatura y bibliotecas en desarrollo en Brasil. También ha sido Presidenta de la Junta Directiva de la Fundación Dorina Nowill para Ciegos, facilitando la inclusión de niños, jóvenes y adultos ciegos y con discapacidad visual a través de servicios de rehabilitación gratuitos y especializados, educación especial, clínica de baja visión y programas de empleabilidad.
Marisol Schulz Manaut
She studied History at the National Autonomous University of Mexico and has been dedicated to publishing and promoting reading work and for over 35 years. During seventeen years she worked at Grupo Santillana, where she was executive editor and later editorial director of general editions. In that publishing group she was the director for Mexico of Taurus and Alfaguara seals. She has been the editor of authors such as Carlos Fuentes, Mario Vargas Llosa, José Saramago, Mario Benedetti, Arturo Pérez-Reverte, among others. In 2010, the University of Guadalajara appointed her director of LéaLA, the Los Angeles Spanish Book Fair, a position she currently holds. She runs the Guadalajara International Book Fair since 2013.
