The letters of the garden
The garden, a domestic territory, has been a typically feminine space. Thus, botany is a science with silent advances thanks to female contributions that did not always find the due recognition. Susana Magallón, director of the Institute of Biology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and a recognized botanist on a global scale, will talk with the Spanish writer Luci Romero, who in 2023 obtained the I Residence of Literature and Environment of the National Center for Environmental Education (CENEAM) within the National Parks organization. Both will talk about the intersections between science and literature to give place to authors and characters who made the plant world a stage for the arts and the advancement of knowledge.
Participants: Susana Magallón, Luci Romero

Susana Magallón
Susanna is fascinated by blue flowers. Among the 350 thousand species of flowering plants, only very few groups have figured out how to make blue flowers. Susana is dedicated to studying how flowering plants acquired so many species, and what the structure of flowers has to do with it. She studies this by combining information from living species with the fossil record. She is currently the director of the Institute of Biology of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and given her important career, she is one of the most recognized biologists worldwide, and for this reason she has been invited by the Royal Society in London and the National Academy of Sciences of the United States, to become a member of these prestigious organizations.

The secret life of your house
What science tells you about your home. You will never see your house the same again. You'll never think about science the same way. Your home hides countless scientific curiosities, which are worth exploring. From the physics of the espresso pot to the chemistry of detergents. Or how bleach changed the course of history, what books smell like, what's in a spoonful of dust or what your clothes are made of.
You just have to read this book to discover them.

We tend to see the natural world from an anthropocentric point of view, where we read the sexual behaviors of other animals with the gaze of our time and culture. Nothing could be further from reality, as it is revealed by biologists like Constantino Macías, director of UNAM Canada, who has studied the sexual behavior of fish, frog calls and the way birds adapt to living in cities. And María Emilia Beyer, director of Universum, the Science Museum of the National Autonomous University of Mexico and member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) and of the Board of Directors of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) for Mexico. It will be an exciting conversation, full of interesting facts with the intention of opening our minds and knowledge about nature, from the hand of both experts.

From the great explosion to the origin of civilizations
One of the greatest achievements has been to develop a narrative, based on science, that leads us in an uninterrupted way from the beginning of the universe to the contemporary era. In this book, members of El Colegio Nacional, and invited specialists take us by the hand on a journey through time and space that goes from the moment of the big explosion —13,800 million years ago—, the formation of stars and galaxies, the Milky Way, the solar system and the planet Earth to the civilizations of the present. This path goes through the evolution of the chemical composition inside the stars, through the formation of the Sun and its planetary system, and through the appearance of the first forms of life on Earth.

OCD, without prejudices or taboos: a look at obsessive-compulsive disorder
There are many myths and commonplaces about mental health. In the case of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), they usually consist of the image of someone who washes his hands non-stop, is very tidy and is afraid of germs. But the reality is much more complex.
At this table, three renowned OCD specialists will explain what the disorder consists of, its causes and how to treat it. They will detail the most frequent contents of the intrusive ideas, thoughts, images or impulses that generate compulsions in patients, and will address the treatments available in Mexico.
Attendees will hear from British psychiatrist Lynne M. Drummond, one of the world's leading OCD specialists; Dr. Humberto Nicolini, pioneer of the study of OCD in Mexico and former director of the International College of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (ICOCS); and Liz Basáñez, a psychological specialist with more than 30 years of experience in the treatment of OCD, and founder of a clinic in Mexico City specializing in this kind of disorders.

Materials, Art and Color: “A conversation about Mexican muralism”
This discussion focuses on Mexican muralism from the perspective of materials science applied to art, with the purpose of improving the understanding of the work of muralists, and assessing the significance of their works for their conservation and restoration.
This event, organized by the University Center of Exact Sciences and Engineering of the University of Guadalajara, aims to explore the history and evolution of Mexican muralism, and integrate scientific analysis on the techniques and materials used with artistic studies on the style and cultural influence of the time. To analyze the socio-political impact of Mexican muralism, in order to highlight how it has reflected and affected the dynamics of the country, by using scientific and artistic methods to evaluate its influence on public consciousness and national identity. To promote the conservation and restoration of the muralist heritage, disseminating advanced scientific techniques and traditional artistic methods, to generate awareness about current challenges and mobilize resources to protect these works as cultural heritage for future generations. And to facilitate an interdisciplinary dialogue about muralism, by creating a space where historians, scientists, artists, art critics and the public can exchange perspectives, thus enriching the understanding of the movement through the integration of scientific and artistic approaches.
