Sylvia Iparraguirre (Junín, Buenos Aires, 1947) is a writer, essayist, and professor of Modern Literature at the University of Buenos Aires. A researcher at CONICET, she has worked in sociolinguistics and on the work of Mikhail Bakhtin.

She has published novels and short stories including El parque (1995) and En el invierno de las ciudades (1998), and has contributed to various anthologies. She won the 1999 Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize for La Tierra del Fuego, a historical novel set in 1830 that narrates the failure of the “cultural assimilation” of Jemmy Button and other Indigenous people in London.
