Paloma Villegas (Mexico City, 1951) won the 2005 Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize for her novel Agosto y fuga (Ediciones Era). She studied Hispanic Literature at UNAM and worked as a literary critic, professor, translator, and editor at Ediciones Era, as well as a contributor to cultural magazines.

Her novels include Mapas (1981) and La luz oblicua (1995). Agosto y fuga was praised for its poetic and precise style, complex narrative structure, and reflection on Mexican politics and society in the 1990s.
